February 2015
Letter from the Chairman

It's hard to believe that January has already come and gone, but it has been a very productive month. The AAHA Board has completed our annual retreat to discuss plans and goals for 2015. We have updated our bylaws, set our meeting calendar for the year and already are working on our biggest fundraiser, the AAHA 5K Run/Walk which will take place on Saturday, October 17th at the Blue Star Arts Complex.

The Community Outreach Committee is collecting monetary donations and "Sweets for the Soldiers" and will send candy and Valentine cards to soldiers deployed overseas.  We also had a wonderful January luncheon at the beautiful DoubleTree Hilton San Antonio Airport where your AAHA Board was introduced.

We are working hard to make 2015 the best year ever for AAHA, but we still need your help. AAHA is nothing without its members. If you have not made the pledge to become an AAHA member, please do so today. In the famous words of Uncle Sam, "WE WANT YOU!"

Thanks to those of you that have already made the commitment and joined or renewed!

The Library Is Always Open
Digital Library Kiosk Partnership

In October, the San Antonio Public Library (SAPL) in partnership with the San Antonio International Airport and the Friends of the San Antonio Public Library, launched two Digital Library kiosks, the first of their kind and a project that has attracted national attention. Now a third kiosk has been added, in Terminal A near the food court.

"The kiosks' innovative approach to digital content distribution offers airport travelers a quick and convenient way to 'check out before check-in'," says San Antonio Public Library Digital Services Manager Ignacio Albarracin. "They also function as rapid recharge stations, a valuable amenity important to travelers." SAPL partnered with Overdrive, the leading full-service digital distributor for public libraries of eBooks, eAudiobooks, music and videos worldwide, to produce the three Digital Library kiosks.

The kiosks serve as a gateway to SAPL's extensive Digital Library, which is also available 24/7 at mysapl.org/digital. SAPL Library cardholders visiting the Digital Library kiosks are able to quickly access the Library's entire digital collection via the 55-inch interactive screens.  Additionally, the Library now offers the first-ever temporary Library card feature, available from OverDrive, for airport visitors from out-of-town or for those who do not yet have a SAPL library card. A simple how-to guide for the kiosks can be found at, www.guides.mysapl.org/librarykiosk
