Letter from the Chairman

It's the time of year that kids are dreading and parents are excited about...back to school! As August rolls around, make sure that you and your family make time for one last summertime experience. Whether it's a quick trip to Port Aransas and the beach or a vacation in your own backyard, make it memorable. Here are a few ideas for your last summertime hurrah...

  • SeaWorld San Antonio and the Aquatica waterpark is open daily through August 23 with great rides, animals shows and splish-splashing fun!
  • Six Flags Fiesta Texas is open daily through August 23. The newest roller coaster Batman The Ride is a 4D experience not to be missed. The waterpark is open daily from 12-7pm.
  • Natural Bridge Caverns is sure to keep you cool this summer. At a cool 70 degrees, the caverns are open daily for tours. You can also explore the Canopy Challenge, Maze, gem & fossil mining and many other great features on site.
  • Splashtown is the place to be this summer. New for 2015 is Splash Island, the newest and coolest water feature for the whole family. With dive in movies every Friday night in the summer, Splashtown is the coolest place in town!
  • Tobin Center for Performing Arts is the best place for summertime culture. With great shows like Fifth Harmony, the SA Film Festival and FREE summer movies presented on the big screen, the Tobin has your summer evenings covered!
  • Belly up to the bar and explore the oldest Saloon in Texas! The Buckhorn Saloon & Museum and Texas Ranger Museum features two fantastic museums for one price. Grab a root beer at the bar and experience 40,000 square feet of fun for the family!
  • Dave & Busters has fun for the whole family with great food, games and more. Not to mention D&B just completed a major renovation. Go see it soon!
  • Top Golf isn't just for adults, it's good for all ages. Top Golf also offers half-price play Monday-Thursday when using their Top Golf Junior Membership playing cards. What a deal!
  • Trader's Village has more than just shopping! There's food, games and rides...lots of rides. Kids can get an unlimited ride wristband for only $9.75! Don't miss the "Back to School" concert on August 16. Open Saturday & Sunday.
  • Ripley's Believe it Or Not, Louis Tussad's Waxworks and Ripley's Moving 4D Theatre are a San Antonio favorite. Get your tickets online for all three attractions and save BIG!
  • Prepare to be #OFFICIALLYAMAZED at Guinness Book of World Records Museum, Ripley's Haunted Adventure and Tomb Rider 3D. These Alamo Plaza attractions are officially awesome and where you can earn an official Guinness World Record title!
  • Visit the San Antonio CVB's "Kidcation Week" website for all of the fun deals and steals in San Antonio.

Sincerely,

Karen Bippert, CTA, CTE
2015 Chairman

San Antonio Celebrates World Heritage!
The San Antonio Missions

SA Celebrates World Heritage Success!

A large crowd gathered in front of the Alamo to celebrate the San Antonio Missions World Heritage Designation a few days after the official announcement was made in Bonn, Germany. Bexar County Judge and San Antonio Mayor Ivy Taylor led the group in recounting highlights from the trip to Germany made by the local, state and national officials delegation. Father David Garcia from the San Antonio Archdiocese reminded the audience that the Missions were gifts to the community that all have a special responsibility to protect and preserve for future generations and visitors from all over the world.

The city's missions officially joined the global ranks of Stonehenge, the Great Wall of China and the Gizeh Pyramid of Egypt. The prestigious designation comes as Texas first and the United State's 23 designation. The World Heritage designation is expected to be a catalyst for change with increased visitation and tourism spending. Congratulations to the historic San Antonio Missions!

SA Goes Orange for Hunger
SA Food Bank & Whatburger join forces

The San Antonio Food Bank has partnered with Whataburger to encourage everyone in Southwest Texas to "Go Orange" and take action to fight hunger during Hunger Action Month in September.

SA Goes Orange is the San Antonio Food Bank local campaign to raise awareness and engage local businesses, government and the community to raise awareness and take action to fight hunger.

As the major supplier of food for the hungry in Southwest Texas, the San Antonio Food Bank helps provide food for about 58,000 individuals each week through a network of more than 530 partner agencies within a 16-county service area. Every dollar donated, every SA Goes Orange for Hunger campaign button worn, and every means of public outreach helps our bottom line: to fight hunger and feed hope in Southwest Texas.

Why Should You Join The SA Goes Orange for Hunger campaign offers your company a unique opportunity to make a difference in the lives of families and individuals in need in our community, while increasing your own brand awareness and product exposure. The goodwill generated by cause-related marketing and Food & Fund Drives translates into a significant return on investment in the San Antonio market. Your employees and your customers will also take pride in knowing that each dollar collected during this campaign allows the Food Bank to distribute up to seven meals.

Go ORANGE in September!

Teddy Bears for SAPD

This month AAHA will be collecting teddy bears for the San Antonio Police Department's "Teddy Bear Program."

The Teddy Bear Program was designed with the intention of officers keeping teddy bears in their patrol cars and handing them out to children who have either witnessed or been a victim of a crime. Hopefully these bears will provide comfort during a child's difficult time.

Please bring teddy bears to the August luncheon at Hilton Hotel San Antonio Airport.
