April 2015
Letter from the Chairman

It's April and you know what that means in San Antonio...

Fiesta is the city's biggest festival, with an economic impact of $284 million for the city. This year Fiesta San Antonio runs from April 16- 26 with events all over the city.

Speaking of Fiesta, the official AAHA Fiesta medal will be available in the next couple of weeks. Keep your eyes peeled for the announcement on the  AAHA Facebook page. We will also be selling a special package of medals including this year's medal. Stay tuned for more details.

Also coming up this month is the Family Fiesta 101 at Viola's Ventanas on April 12th. This inaugural event will have food, fun, music, silent auction and more and it's for the whole family. Your friendly AAHA Board Members will be there too with a surprise for the kids! Tickets are still available. Click here to purchase tickets.

Sincerely,

Karen Bippert, CTA
2015 Chairman
Alamo Area Hospitality Association

What is new on the Plaza?
Amazing Mirror Maze & Guinness World Records Museum

The Amazing Mirror Maze has had a complete renovation and is all new with 2 more additions coming before the summer. Also new for 2015 is an Infinity Room (a room with mirrored ceiling and floors as well as the walls) and a projection maze. The projection maze will be a separate experience inside the mirror maze where video and colored lights are projected on the structure itself holding the mirrors together. It creates a very cool and unique visual. These 2 additions will double the experience at the attraction.

The newest gallery in the Guinness World Records Museum is the Attempt Arena where guests can compete against each other and the world records themselves in a variety of activities. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit: amazingmazes.com

Summer time means Weddings!
wedding-cake.jpg
Wedding Guide & Bridal Extravaganza

What's going on in the wedding world? Wedding spending is on the rise, nationally it now tops $31,000. In the San Antonio market, projections are between $28,000 and $31,000 (depending on the source) for 2015. But while couples may be spending more money, they are spending it differently. Personalization, from signature cocktails to gobos, has been part of the wedding planning for the last few years.

Beyond that, however, couples are looking for unique and off-beat and it is all about the experience, not just the party. Themes are no longer just to help determine colors, they are becoming the basis for the entire "experience" the guest can expect to have. Projected "hot" themes nationally for 2015: Western (yah, for once we were on the leading edge) and Boho Chic will continue as popular choices.

Interactive food stations, smaller bites or tapas and food more closely tied to the theme (cultural or regional world cuisine) are all being seen more and more. Entertainment, even beyond the current photo booths, will also continue to grow such as artists who create paintings of the reception while it is happening, and performing groups such as aerialists and dancers.

To check out some of the wedding trends for 2015, don't miss the 2015 Bridal Extravaganza on May 17 at the Henry B. Gonazalez Convention Center. For more information or to buy your tickets, visit the Wedding Guide & Bridal Extravaganza website
